The Kung Fu novel "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" by Wang Dulu have been written into a supplemental textbook for Chinese high school students.
Students were very surprised to find the martial arts novel in their Chinese auxiliary textbook, an addition recently decided on by the People's Education Press.
However, the inclusion of the martial arts novel has raised some eyebrows. Some claim they are of no academic value and may have a bad influence on young readers. But many students and teachers have happily accepted the addition as a hint of education reform.
So far, martial art novels are only written in the supplementary textbook, which means students can choose to read them or not. If they appear in the Chinese textbook in class, it requires approval from the ministry of education. |
