The Chinese film industry had box office takings of over 1.5 billion yuan in 2004 for both for commercial films and art house ones and the trend looks set to continue in 2005.

While newly awarded Best Director Tian Zhuangzhuang this time will use his lens to tell a story about Chinese chess master Wu Qingyuan.
Other films to look forward to in 2005 include Feng Xiaogang's The Noble and the final sequel of A Chinese Odyssey.
